The US has never really gotten over Vietnam, the 1970s economic crises and the across-the-board societal recriminations that followed. The can-do spirit of the previous few decades disappeared and was replaced by a profound skepticism toward any positive community- or national-scale enterprise. In a word, the country was demoralized. This blog is about the opposite: becoming re-moralized. It is not about jingoism, American Exceptionalism or collective fantasy. Rather, I concern myself with those things that enable or inspire us, and those problems that require clear seeing, clear thinking and careful action.

This is the personal blog of Ray Gronberg, a resident of Durham, NC, and a newspaper reporter. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are mine along and do not reflect or speak for the Paxton Media Group.
